Babymoon in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Where one should take this trip depends a lot on the couple. Most enjoy a romantic type get away that is economical to some degree (save money for those baby strollers, cribs and diapers!) and who doesn’t love a serene sea and sandy beaches to sink your toes into? Many resorts and hotels in the Caribbean have jumped at the opportunity to create packages for such guests.

Of the many islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is ranked at the top of the list for many U.S.-based couples to spend this precious time together due to its proximity, ease of travel (no passport!) and “foreign yet comfortable” ambiance…not to mention the myriad of activities to keep love birds occupied: rainforests, food tours, highly regarded restaurants, caves, and of course world renowned beaches. If you’re into pampering there are also a number of wonderful spas and salons to make the most of those final pre prego months.

Recommendations for a fun, romantic babymoon include:

Verde mesa

Verde Mesa, Spanish for “Green table,” is a nice detox from typical Puerto Rican fried foods (like mofongo, fritters, rice and beans, etc.). Their farm to table approach guarantees fresh and tasty cuisine for your night out in the historic city of Old San Juan Puerto Rico. Our personal highlights include the ratatouille, lavender ice cream or catch of the day.

Culinary walking tour of Old San Juan

Your stay in San Juan is not complete without a trip to Old San Juan – the oldest city in the island (a former Spanish colonial bastion) and home of some of the best do not miss restaurants in the island.  What better way to enhance your trip to Old San Juan than with a culinary and historical walking tour? Flavors of San Juan provides guests with an overview of the history, architecture and culture while trying  the local foods and drinks that have made San Juan so unforgettable. Taste single origin coffee, mofongo capped with creole chicken, traditional rice and beans and wash it all down with a smooth rum-laced pina colada. Tours depart daily and are small in group size to promote a boutique tour experience. Just let them know you’re pregnant (can’t eat raw fish, certain cheeses or alcohol) and they can easily accommodate you.

Euforia Spa

For a relaxing high end spa experience that won’t break the bank, we recommend Euforia spa. They have a number of facial options, massage packages and manicure and pedicure services. From personal experience we can recommend their maternity massages. Ask for Harold! He is certified for maternal massages and provides a very relaxing, safe massage experience up until your final weeks (when you really need it the most!).

La Concha hotel

Of the many hotel options in San Juan, one that stands out for comfort, location and quality is La Concha Resort.  They have two gorgeous pools in different areas in the metro-centric hotel (one with an amazing view to the emerald ocean and gorgeous beach) plus beach access that can’t be beat. Their service is unparalleled and their food/drink menu while at the pool is actually pretty good! Plus you don’t have to go far because they have a great evening scene at the hotel lobby so if you get tuckered out on a night out you don’t have far to go to return to your room (bonus!).
