Mother’s Day Dining Guide 2017 in Puerto Rico

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. It’s that special day of the year you dedicate to the #1 woman in your life, the one that gave you life! And if you still don’t know where to wine and dine with mom then have no fear, Flavors is here. We’ve compiled our dining guide list of the top places to “nom” for Mother’s Day 2017 in Puerto Rico. Our selection of restaurants and dining establishments will help you create the picture-perfect day for the most important lady in your life.

Chocobar at Casa Cortes $$

If mom’s an early bird and loves chocolatebecause let’s be honest, what woman doesn’t then this is the place for her! Chocolate reigns supreme at the Chocobar at Casa Cortes and is featured in some shape, way or form in almost every item on it’s eclectic menu. Try their infamous chocolate grilled cheese, or some mouth-watering Spanish ham croquettes. Wash it all down with their iconic hot chocolate, a staple in every Puerto Rican kitchen. For Mother’s Day they’ll be preparing specialty Chocolate margaritas with hand crafted chocolate flowers.  On weekends, their signature brunch rules the menu, perfect for a Mother Day’s outing!

Princesa Gastropub $$

Take mom out for a stroll through the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, and then wind down the picturesque Paseo de la Princesa to end at this hidden-gem of a restaurant: Princesa Gastrobar. Inside the open-air eatery you’ll find over 20 trees and a patio that’s demarcated by a centuries-old fortification. The varied menu features island dishes resurrected from the 19th century, Mediterranean food, single-origin coffee, and the only rum bar endorsed by Rums of Puerto Rico, giving mom plenty of options to choose from.

ROAD TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS

Asador San Miguel, Naranjito $$

Only an hour’s drive from San, there’s a place where you can dine and dance surrounded by stunning mountains views.  Head to the central part of the island to Naranjito and you’ll find El Asador San Miguel amongst the clouds. If mom’s a carnivore, this restaurant’s for her. Although they offer a variety of dishes and delicious drinks suitable for all  palate, their specialty is all sorts of smoked meats. Make sure to reserve ahead since this is a popular spot with live music!

Casa Vieja, Ciales $

There’s nothing like your mom’s home cooking, amirite? Well if you want to feel like you’re eating at mom’s house, without actually having to mom do the work on her special day, head over to Casa Vieja! Located in the sleepy mountainous town of Ciales this rustic bar and restaurant features authentic local dishes and the best mojitos in town. Casa Vieja offers a unique blend of history, beauty and delicious food. Added bonus: there’s live acoustic jams by Roberto Sole!

BRUNCH

Oceano, Condado $$

What could be more picturesque than dining along the Atlantic with some smooth jazz serenading you in the background? Say no more! We’re sold! Join the “Sunday Jazz Brunch” at Oceano in Condado and enjoy Chef Ann Marie Antonetti’s delicious creations.  $29.95 per person and children 12 and under eat FREE.

Vivo Beach Club, Carolina $$

A quick 10-minute drive from San Juan you’ll find the only beach club in the city featuring both a restaurant and a brewery. If you want to do something upbeat and different, Vivo Beach Club will be offering a delicious Sunday Brunch with live music. For $35 you’ll have unlimited access to their brunch, mimosas and sangria.

Avocado Cocina Local & Patio Bar, Guaynabo $-$$

Blessed be whoever invented avocado! This place is inspired by the creamy avocado fruit where they take local cuisine to the next level. Their newest creation, avocado ice cream! If your mom is an avocado lover take her to this spot and even if she doesn’t like avocado they offer other delicious dishes.

Hours of brunch: 11am-3pm

TRY SOMETHING OUT OF THE BOX

Lote 23, Santurce $

If mom’s a foodie we have the perfect destination for her at Lote 23. The Santurce gastronomic park will be offering a full-day itinerary on Sunday where mom’s can enjoy a variety of creative culinary and cultural offerings.  The day’s agenda begins with a 1 hour yoga class (9am-10am), a braid and facial bar by Garnier (10am-11am), kids painting sessions with local artist Javier Cintron (12pm-3pm), a champagne stand by Moet (starting at 12pm), and finishing up the day with guitar and conga sounds from Lizbeth Román (5pm). And all of these are free so it’s perfect if you want to bring the whole family!

The Atelier / Cocina Abierta, Condado $$$

If you want mom to feel extra special The Atelier at Cocina Abierta has just the ticket. Their head chef, Zulaida Escobar, will be presenting a unique Mother’s Day brunch in honor of mothers everywhere. The Atelier will be offering a 5 course menu designed just for this occasion with, wait for it… unlimited mimosas from their world class bar! Click here to get your tickets. Old San Juan Food Tour  $$

Does your amazing mom love food, history, and culture? Then surprise her with a food tour in Old San Juan. There’s no experience like literally eating your way through a city!  You’ll go bite-by-bite through the Old Quarter, stopping at 5 local establishments along the way, all while interacting with a local guide. Mom will savor 10+ bites and sips on tour – including an iconic rum cocktail while learning about architecture, historic landmarks, and history. Pretty fun, huh? Book here!
